Smithy Cottage renovation

This is our own home and has by now been 3 years in the making. We immediately fell in love with the old, dilapidated cottage with its big garden and view across to Arran. It was at just the right stage for a total refurb… new underfloor heating by electric heat pump, modern insulation, the obligatory log fire… revised layout with a new stair and additional bathroom upstairs. The nice thing is it works.
The most recent addition is the replacement porch with roach limestone cladding and frameless glazing. We got onto the shortlist for a Galvanizers Association award with this.

Conservation of Christ Church Cathedral, Zanzibar

Zanzibar Cathedral was built at the end of the 19th Century by Bishop Steere working with London architect C.F. Hayward. By the end of the 20th Century it was in need of repair. We became involved in the project in 2007 through CED but it was not until 2014 that funding was secured by World Monuments Fund. They employed us as consultants and the project is due for completion in May 2016.

Housing development: Flats in Scotstounhill

The housing development at Scotstounhill started with a householder seeing opportunity to develop the land behind her house. Working with the planning department, the architect produced a scheme of 8 dwellings that were in keeping with the neighbouring listed building without overpowering it.

Crescent Grove has proved successful with many of the original residents still living there and enjoying the privacy of a private domain in the heart of Scotstounhill.
